There are weddings, and then there are weddings that change you. In May 2025, I had the incredible honor of traveling to Texas to witness my mother’s wedding. But I didn't just witness it—I had the rare privilege of being in it as part of the bridal party, while simultaneously capturing the day behind the lens as a photographer.
A Balancing Act of Heart and Craft
People often ask me if it’s hard to stay in "work mode" during such an emotional family event. To be honest, it was a beautiful challenge. Moving from the role of daughter and bridesmaid to the role of storyteller was an exercise in being fully present in two ways at once.
It was a delicate balance of managing the timeline and the gear while staying grounded in the moment. Yet, looking back at the images, I don't just see the technical details; I see the love I felt in that room. Being a photographer who is part of the family tree allowed me to capture the raw, candid joy that only a loved one can spot.
A True Family Reunion
The wedding was more than just a ceremony; it was a long-awaited gathering of our favorite people. Having my cousins travel from the Philippines, along with family arriving from Florida—kids and all—made the event feel like a true homecoming.
There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you bring family together from across the globe. Watching my Brother, Cousins, my moms friends all connect, hearing the stories shared across generations, and seeing the children running around with that pure, unbridled excitement reminded me why I do what I do. Family photography isn't just about images; it’s about documenting the history of who we are and who we are becoming.
An Honor I’ll Keep Forever
I’ve captured many weddings through Beauty in Scrubs Photography, but there will always be a special place in my portfolio—and my heart—for this one. To stand beside my mother as she began this new chapter, and to be the one responsible for freezing those moments in time for her to cherish forever, was the greatest honor of my career.
